Turning programming in GibbsCAM

GO Turning programs 2-axis CNC turning centers from wireframe geometry. Tool definitions, profiles and machining operations work together with stock tracking, which also informs approach, exit and rapid moves.

Full 2-axis programming

Wireframe geometry drives 2-axis contouring, including profiles with multiple peaks and valleys. Operations include automatic, plunge and repetitive-shape roughing, threading, drilling, tapping and boring.

Start and end point control

Define where the tool starts and ends each operation. If the initial point lies outside the machined profile, approach extensions are generated automatically.

Graphical tool definition

Graphical tool definition displays the dimensions needed for setup. Choose predefined tool types or define custom form tools and check their geometry during creation.

Advanced turning kinematics

Built-in interpolated and eccentric turning supports off-center turned features, including those on large parts or parts with difficult access and orientation.

VoluTurn

VoluTurn adds high-speed turning, including roughing with round inserts in hard materials and superalloys, with tool wear as a key consideration.

Advanced roughing routines

Roughing includes plunge cycles with automatic shoulder stroking and pattern-shift strategies. Pattern roughing offers constant-path and constant-stepover alternatives.

Subspindles and auxiliary devices

Twin-spindle lathes and simple multitasking machines support stock-aware part transfers and shifts, plus tailstocks, steady rests, bar feeders and catchers. Multi-flow or multi-channel machines require advanced MTM options.

Tool approach control

Choose single-direction or bidirectional cutting. Tool-drag avoidance calculates paths that respect the insert’s cutting direction.

Canned cycle support

Canned cycles cover face, outside-diameter, inside-diameter and casting roughing and finishing, as well as drill-type operations.

Material awareness

Remaining stock is tracked as operations progress. Entry, exit, cutting and rapid moves use this information to avoid regions still occupied by material.

Profile boring and facing

U-axis heads on milling or mill/turn centers can machine variable-profile bores, bosses and faces using turning-style programming techniques.
