Solid milling programming

GO Solid Milling adds solid and surface preparation, direct model machining and machine simulation. Import a part, repair geometry and organize operations around the solid model in one environment.

Programming includes multi-tool, multi-surface roughing and finishing, plus remaining-material strategies. Hole recognition and Hole Manager organize hole parameters and machining processes.

GO Solid Milling. Also includes the capabilities of GO Milling.

Solid modeling

Start with imported CAD, a newly created solid or a part that needs manufacturing edits. Solid-modeling tools and history trees support construction and modification of the model used for machining.

Surface-model import and repair

Import surface models, repair geometric problems and create additional machining surfaces. This supports jobs supplied as surfaces as well as preparation for a solid-based workflow.

CAD import

Supported formats include Parasolid, ACIS/SAT, STEP and VDA, plus Solid Edge, SOLIDWORKS and Inventor files. Optional interoperability extensions cover PTC, CATIA and NX.

Automatic solidification

Imported or newly created surfaces can be stitched into solid bodies. The resulting solid can be edited with modeling tools or used directly for machining.

Solid positioning tools

Position and orient solids without manually calculating transformations. These tools support multi-piece models and placement of the workpiece relative to fixtures and coordinate systems.

Direct 2.5D solid machining

Program machining directly from the solid body and its geometric information. This connects model preparation with the definition of 2.5D machining operations.

Profiler

Interactively identify bosses, slots and pockets, choosing which geometric elements belong to each feature. Profiler can also derive geometry for feature-based machining.

Automatic feature recognition

Automatic feature recognition identifies holes, their positions and orientations, and details such as chamfers, countersinks, counterbores and bottom conditions.

Hole Manager

Hole Manager groups hole parameters for processing. AFR supplies recognized holes, while Hole Wizard passes information into automatic tooling and toolpath generation.

Machine simulation

Simulation uses a machine-tool model to review programmed motion and setup. This provides an opportunity to identify programming problems before running the job on the machine.

VoluMill Solids

VoluMill Solids controls removal rates during high-speed roughing of solid models. It includes tool and holder collision avoidance in deep pockets and cleanup of tapered walls.

Radial milling

Radial milling combines A, B or C rotation with X, Y and/or Z for simultaneous four-axis analytic cutting. Off-center Y-axis milling supports radial prismatic parts defined by solids or 3D geometry.
